Subject: Interim Resolution to Issue Affecting Chemical Warfare Agent (CWA) Testing for NIOSH CBRN Respirator Approvals, supplements CA-2019-1018 and 1021

NIOSH CA 2019-1022
September 2019

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) employs the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Chemical Biological Center (Cob体育 CBC) to conduct Chemical Warfare Agent (CWA) testing. These services support the NIOSH Respirator Approval Program by completing CWA testing for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) respiratory protection conformance.

On September 11, 2019, Cob体育 CBC informed NIOSH the safety stand-down was lifted for distilled sulfur mustard (HD) testing. Based on Cob体育 CBC data, NIOSH decided to pursue high concentration HD testing and accepted Cob体育 CBC corrective actions developed to resolve the June 10, 2019 Cob体育 CBC Simulant Agent Resistant Test Manikin (SMARTMAN) Laboratory safety stand-down for high concentration distilled sulfur mustard vapor and liquid testing.

High concentration HD testing to support the NIOSH CBRN approval program resumed on September 12, 2019.
