April is designated Cancer Control Month by the American
Cancer Society (ACS), and April 14-20, 1996, is National Minority
Cancer Awareness Week. One of every four deaths in the United
States results from cancer, and in 1996, an estimated 554,740
persons in the United States will die from cancer (1). Of the
estimated 1,359,150 cancer cases that will be diagnosed in the
United States during 1996, approximately 174,380 will be among
racial/ethnic minorities (1). Cancer incidence and death rates vary
among different racial/ethnic groups, in part because of
differences in lifestyle, behavior, and access to health care. ob体育
