2021 Project: Translational Genomics Research Institute

COVID-19 genomics in the American Southwest

What to know

Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen North) expanded their analysis of SARS-CoV-2 genomic diversity and provided information on how the SARS-CoV-2 spreads and evolves. Awarded in 2021, this project conducted multilevel genomic analysis on COVID-19 clinical sample sets. They formed a robust genomic analysis team and employed, validated, and published analysis methods in novel ways, with a focus on generating outcomes that were meaningful for public health, clinical medicine, and research.

New SARS-CoV-2 dashboards and websites

This project:

  • Maintained to track virus genome sequencing, variant incidence, and the phytogeography of SARS-CoV-2 in Arizona.
  • Generated websites to and transmission of SARS-CoV-2, identify emerging mutations, capture , and display an interactive .

New and improved sequencing software tools

This project further developed the Amplicon Sequencing Analysis Pipeline (ASAP) software for more rapid variant detection and mixture analysis via the TGen North .
